Stephen Fry confirmed to film cameo appearance for TG4 soap Ros na Rún!

Ros na Rún, the TG4 soap opera, has confirmed that legendary actor and broadcaster Stephen Fry will film a cameo appearance for the show.

Stephen Fry is currently shooting a new BBC TV series on minority languages called Planet Word and was invited to appear in Ros na Rún during a scheduled visit to Connemara where he will be exploring the origins of the Irish language.

Fry accepted the invitation from Ros na Rún and his guest appearance will be filmed in early December on a closed shoot on the Ros na Rún set in Spiddal, Co. Galway.

Hugh Farley, Series Producer of Ros na Rún, says:
“There is huge excitement here on the Ros na Rún set regarding Stephen Fry’s cameo appearance for the show. Our team of scriptwriters are currently writing Stephen a cúpla focal for his special role and we plan to film a highly entertaining scene with Stephen and some of Ros na Rún’s best loved characters.“

Now in its 15th year, Ros na Rún continually raises the bar for innovative and realistic storylines. The current season tackles intriguing real-life storylines such as suicide, date rape, prostitution, elder abuse, and family tragedy as well as the soap staples of fisticuffs, love triangles and feuds.

One of the show’s greatest strengths is that while it has a frank approach to tough subject matters, it also features a strong comedic element. Ros na Rún celebrates the lighter side of village life with scenes of domestic squabbles, practical jokes and competitive one-upmanship between siblings, friends and lovers providing plenty of comic relief. The show balances humour with a sensitive approach to serious themes, making it a hit with viewers.

Behind TG4’s top drama series is a 120 person strong team of talented actors and hard-working behind the scenes crew. Ros na Rún is shot on a purpose built set in Spiddal with additional filming taking place in the local area. Each week from August to February, three episodes of the show are recorded across two studios with all scriptwriting, production and editing taking place on set.

The show is co-produced by Eo Teilifis and Tyrone Productions, who are commissioned by TG4 to produce the stations flagship drama programme.

Ros na Rún is broadcast on TG4 every Tuesday and Thursday evening at 8.30pm and an omnibus is aired on Sunday nights at 10.30pm
