Sunday’s live coverage of the Allianz National Football League Finals 2011 on TG4 achieved the highest audience ratings yet this year for the channel. The official Nielsen television audience measure reports that an average of 307,000 viewers watched Cork overcome Dublin with a late rally in a dramatic final at Croke Park. (This was only 2,000 short of TG4’s highest audience figure ever - the 2007 Allianz Division 1 Hurling League Final).
One in three people watching television in Ireland on Easter Sunday afternoon were watching the 2011 Division 1 Football final, making TG4 comfortably the most popular channel in the country for that period, with a share three times higher than for any other channel.
It is worth noting that the Nielsen systems only measures domestic viewership and does not include those watching in pubs, clubs etc.
TG4 Ardstiúrthóir Pól Ó Gallchóir is very pleased with Sunday’s audience figures. “TG4 continues to make huge impact with its live Gaelic games coverage”, he said, “and we are delighted that the National Football League Finals achieved such a marvellous viewership for our channel.”
