TG4’s An Samhradh Linn returns to our screens on Thursday, July 5th, for a second series, with host Síle Ní Bhraonáin travelling the length and breadth of the country to bring us programmes jam-packed with the best in traditional music, rising talent, local cuisine and visitor and heritage attractions - all highlighting the myriad of exciting and affordable options on offer for the many of us who will holiday at home this year.
Síle will visit one county each week to meet its finest musicians who will perform for us, and an appreciative local audience, in their customary traditional Irish music pub. She will also be introducing us to some exciting emerging talent along the way, as well as sampling some of the best Busking music in the country!
To prove that eating out in Ireland can be both a delicious and inexpensive experience, Síle will also be dropping in on a Gastro Pub of note in each county. Their chef will demonstrate how to prepare and cook one of their scrumptious signature dishes, costing a real value-for-money ten euro or less!
An Samhradh Linn will also introduce you to some of the many rich and varied attractions of Ireland's heritage. Millions of Irish people and foreign visitors visit our heritage sites each year to learn something of our rich history and tradition. Each week a family will explore one of these visitor attractions and tell us of their personal experience.
And summer is also the time when thousands of teenagers around Ireland make their way to an Irish College where they can live with local families and immerse themselves in the Irish language. Each week An Samhradh Linn will be visiting one of these Irish Colleges to meet the students and staff. And there will be an exclusive performance from a sean-nós dancer who will demonstrate their particular local style of dancing to the students.
Thugamar Féin an Samhradh Linn is the Irish song which gives this TG4 programme its name. Síle Ní Bhraonáin and all the crew look forward to bringing the summer to you! You can see An Samhradh Linn on TG4 every Thursday at 8:30pm, and online at www.tg4.tv. The series kicks off on July 5th, when Síle visits the beautiful county of Donegal.
