Orla Ní Threasaigh's  Meal

Spaghetti Bolognaise 

Ingredients:

  • 450g minced beef
  • 3 carrots
  • 2 red/yellow peppers
  • 1 onion
  • 1 garlic clove
  • 2 tins of tomatoes
  • 1 pint of beef stock
  • 1 tablespoon of tomato puree
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of herbs (oregano, basil,etc.)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil

Method:

  1. Heat the oil in the frying pan and brown the beef.
  2. Add the onion and garlic to it.
  3. Cut the peppers and carrots and add to the meat.
  4. Pour the meat from the pan into a pot.
  5. Add the tins of tomatoes, tomato puree and stock to the pot.
  6. Add the herbs, sugar and salt and pepper to the sauce.
  7. Let the sauce simmer on a low heat for 10-15 minutes.
  8. Boil the spaghetti in boiling water for 10-15 minutes.
  9. Serve the sauce on a bed of spaghetti.

Dessert

Fruit Flan

Ingredients:

  • 3oz self raising flour
  • 3oz caster sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • Mixture of fruit
  • Whipped cream

Method:

  1. Beat the sugar and the eggs in a bowl until the mixture thickens.
  2. With a metal spoon, fold in the flour.
  3. Pour the mixture into a tin.
  4. Place in the oven at 180C for 20-25 or until it has a golden colour.
  5. Beat the cream and spread on the flan.
  6. Wash and cut the fruit, you can choose a variety.
  7. Decorate the flan with the fruit.
  8. Serve with a little cream.
