A new series profiling musical families; including:
The Shannon Family: Traditional music was an integral part of growing up for the Shannon family. As teenagers they rose to prominence in the group Disert Tola. Sharon soon got her first big break accompanying The Waterboys and the rest is history
The McManus Family (Mama’s Boys): Born into an incredibly talented musical family in County Fermangh, Pat, John and Tommy McManus swapped their fiddles, uilleann pipes and bodhráns upon hearing the Horslips and formed the hard rock outfit Mama’s Boys. Worldwide tours, chart success and MTV appearances soon followed.
The Murphy Family (The Four of Us): Brendan, Declan and Paul Murphy decided to form a band in Newry in the late 80s and with the addition of Peter Mc Kinney on drums they became The Four of Us. Over 25 years later, Brendan and Declan, the only surviving members, believe their music and relationship is stronger than ever.
The Cluskey Family (The Bachelors): Half a century ago it was teenage girls who proclaimed their undying love for The Bachelors. Hailing from Dublin City, brothers Conleth and Declan Cluskey with John Stokes formed the original Irish boy band that had the female world at their feet.
The Begleys: The Begley’s are steeped in the traditional music and culture of the West Kerry Gaeltacht. A family of nine brothers and sisters, musicians and singers from the Dingle peninsula.
The McSherry Family (Tamalin): Siblings Paul, Tiona, John and Joanne Mc Sherry, from West Belfast, had an upbringing rich in music and culture. Bhunaigh siad an banna ceoil Tamalin sna luathnócháidí agus thaistíl siad ar fud na cruinne lena stíl cheoil uathúil.
