He was one of the first to protest against the government's proposal of the relocation of people from Tory Island to the mainland. He talks about this amongst many other stories.

At sunset, he finally arrives at Cooper's Creek, the infamous epicentre to the whole tragedy. The creek is a series of extraordinarily remote waterways where the famous 'Dig Tree' still stands to this day, its inscription still faintly visible!

Maureen Begley says the hardest thing was not speaking English. 'There was not a word of English in Inis Meáin, and that was really hard'. But she learnt, as did they all.
