The MGM Lion. How a Dublin-born lion became one of Hollywood's élite, seen by millions on the silver screen every week. Slats was the very first lion to appear as Leo the Lion - the corporate identity and logo of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film studios. Born in Dublin Zoo, Slats was brought to Hollywood in 1917 and initially used as the mascot for Goldwyn Pictures. When that company was merged into the newly formed MGM in 1924, Slats was kept on to introduce all MGM films, débuting with He Who Gets Slapped in 1924.

Weekly highlights series following the Volvo Ocean Race with action this week from the 9th leg of the journey which takes the boats from Lorient to Gothenburg, a distance of 960 nautical miles. The 38,739-nautical mile route started in Alicante last October and finished in Gothenburg, Sweden last week. Seven boats are participating in this race including an all-female crew (Team SCA). This edition of the Volvo Ocean Race is the 12th running of the 40-year-old event, which started in 1973 as the Whitbread Round the World Race.

Ecmo: Newborn baby Sophie lies dying in a hospital in Ireland. In the middle of the night, the ECMO team from Sweden appear. They fly Sophie to a Swedish clinic, in a last attempt to save her life with a technique which provides blood oxygenation support to severely injured and exhausted patients by an artificial lung outside the body. The film follows patients and staff at the ECMO clinic at Karolinska University Hospital in Stockholm, a place of constant struggle for life but also of true miracles.
