TG4’s reputation for quality and diversity has been further enhanced by the publication of the shortlisted entries for this year’s IFTA Awards. The Irish language channel has 13 nominations.
EIPIC has received 3 nominations for the IFTA awards in Children’s and Young People, Director (Louise Ní Fhiannachta) and Irish language categories. Ros na Rún–the flagship drama series which comes of age this season (the 21st) and is one of TG4’s best-loved programmes- received two nominations.
Bás Nó Saoirse produced by Tile Films is nominated for best Documentary Series. Nuacht TG4 has been named in the News category. Among the programmes nominated in the Irish language category are; the award winning drama series An Klondike, EIPIC- a drama series where 5 rural teenagers take over their local abandoned post office to start a musical revolution in 2016, Fleadh TV the groundbreaking live music and entertainment series that showcases the best of traditional and folk music from Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann and the channels soap Ros na Rún.
Also nominated is Crainn na hÉireann, a series where Manchán Magan travels around Ireland identifying our native trees, is in the running for a Specialist Factual award.
Two of TG4 productions have received nominations in the Sound category for Stephen McLoughlin (Hup) and John Brennan (Deoch an Dorais).
TG4 presenter Maire Treasa Ní Dhubhghaill has been nominated for an IFTA in the Gala TV Rising Star category.

Director General Pól Ó Gallchóir, congratulated the shortlisted TG4 productions and skills nominees for this year’s IFTA. “TG4 has received nominations and prizes at each IFTA since we came on air” he said. “Being nominated in the same categories that include some of the best quality English language TV content available anywhere, bears out the regular feedback we receive from viewers and critics who associate TG4 with distinctive quality and innovation”, he said.
