Leaving Cert Irish students (and their teachers) now have access to a new Irish language resource geared towards their specific needs and based on material from the TG4 programme archive. This new learning resource has been devised and assembled in partnership with NUIG and is available worldwide, free of charge. It was launched at this weekend’s Tionól Teagaisc, (a Professional Development Service Workshop on best practice in Irish language teaching.)
The new Website is very accessible: Each week during the school year, content from the TG4 archive, together with customised exercises will be posted. Lessons have been devised around topics specified in the Leaving Certificate Syllabus. The resource also provides a video representation of the prescribed poems for the Irish language oral exam, which expresses both the literal and metaphorical meanings of the poems.
TG4 Leascheannasaí, Pádhraic Ó Ciardha, says the new development is in response to teachers’ and students’ requests to use the channel’s output as an ongoing language resource and to have a structure to assist the learning process areound them. “As we mark the channel’s 20th Birthday next week,” he said “the launch of this important development highlights TG4’s role as a provider of a public service and as an attractive daily point of contact with Irish for people of all ages”.
Additional material for teachers can be accessed here.
