TG4 Confirms Coverage of over 35 matches from the United Rugby Championship 25/26 Season

25.09.25

TG4 is delighted to confirm details of its upcoming coverage of the BKT United Rugby Championship, having secured exclusive Free-to-Air rights to the competition in Ireland earlier this year. Coverage begins this Friday, 26 September, with live action on Rugbaí Beo.

The opening weekend of the 25th league season will feature two Irish provinces on TG4. Defending champions Leinster begin their campaign away to the Stormers in South Africa on Friday, 26 September, while Connacht open their season at home against Benetton on Saturday, 27 September.

Irish interprovincial clashes will feature prominently in TG4’s coverage across the season, with one of the most eagerly anticipated fixtures – Leinster v Munster – taking place live from Croke Park on 18 October. This will mark Leinster’s return to GAA headquarters for the first time since their 32–7 URC final victory over the Bulls on 14 June.

The reverse fixture, Munster v Leinster, was a highlight of last season’s coverage and earned TG4 and Rugbaí Beo producers IRIS Productions a Royal Television Society Award in December in the category of Best Live Sports Programme.

Other interprovincial ties confirmed for Rugbaí Beo this season include:

  • Munster v Connacht – 25 October, Thomond Park
  • Leinster v Ulster – 19 December, Aviva Stadium
  • Connacht v Ulster – 27 December
  • Leinster v Connacht – 3 January 2026

Gemma Ní Chionnaith and Cuán Ó Flatharta will lead TG4’s coverage, alongside a panel of expert analysts delivering in-depth insight and commentary across all TG4 platforms. Coverage will be produced by the Royal Television Society Award-winning team at IRIS Productions.

Martin Anayi, CEO of the United Rugby Championship, said:
“No broadcaster in Ireland has provided as much support to this league over such an extensive length of time as TG4 and their partnership will eclipse two decades during this next cycle. TG4’s desire to produce sports coverage to the highest levels has grown alongside the evolution of the BKT URC which is a great reward for fans.
Language and sport carry such rich cultural significance across the world and TG4 do an incredible job at celebrating them together in a live environment. The URC is full of diversity and different communities that are united by their passion for our sport and there are few stakeholders who symbolise that better than TG4.”

Rónán Ó Coisdealbha, TG4 Head of Sport, said:
“TG4 is very pleased to continue showcasing the BKT United Rugby Championship and to provide free-to-air coverage of these important and exciting rugby matches. We are proud to be the exclusive Free-to-Air partner of the URC in Ireland and to extend our long-standing commitment to the league. Rugby holds a central place in TG4’s sports coverage, and we look forward to bringing even more thrilling encounters and unforgettable moments to audiences across the island over the coming seasons.”
