Gradam Ceoil TG4

TG4 Gradam Ceoil was established in 1998 to recognise, honour and thank all those who have played a prominent part in supporting, nurturing and strengthening Irish traditional music. Our living tradition is renowned across the world as a core element of Ireland’s identity and image as a creative and cultural nation. TG4 Gradam Ceoil shines a light on the beautiful richness, depth and dynamism of our traditional music, and gives a public platform to those performers of all ages, from Ireland and across the world, who are making their mark on this ancient artform which thrives as a contemporary music.

The Gradam Ceoil is awarded annually at a major concert which features the recipients playing with friends and family. This is a live brioadcast, which adds considerably to the buzz and the atmosphere of the event, and Gradam Ceoil has pride of place as one of TG4’s broadcast highlights of the year.

A voluntary selection panel, appointed by TG4, selects the recipients of Gradam Ceoil and members are appointed to the panel based on their expertise in traditional music as a living tradition.
Since the inception of the award in 1998, TG4 has appointed the following experts to participate in the selection of Gradam Ceoil recipients: Meaití Joe Shéamuis Ó Fátharta, Fintan Vallely, Pat Ahern, Kevin Crawford, Ann Mulqueen, Áine Hensey, Cathal Goan, Breanndán Ó Beaglaoich, Mary McPartlan, Robbie Hannan, Proinsias Ní Ghráinne, Muiris Ó Rócháin, Claire Keville, Liz Doherty, Mary Bergin, Caoimhín Ó Raghallaigh, Niamh de Búrca, Ciarán Ó Gealbháin, Úna Monaghan, Muireann Nic Amhlaoibh, Conor Byrne, Caoimhín O Fearghail, John Blake, Dermot McLaughlin and Neansaí Ní Choisdealbha.
