Official Trailer Launched for IFTA Award-Winning Irish-Language Feature BÁITE n Cinemas Nationwide 6 March 2026 During Seachtain na Gaeilge

The official trailer has today been released for the award-winning Irish-language feature BÁITE, ahead of its nationwide cinema opening on 6 March 2026, timed to coincide with Seachtain na Gaeilge (1–17 March).

BÁITE was nominated for four IFTA Awards, including Lead Actress in Film (Eleanor O’Brien), Best Director – Film (Ruán Magan), Script – Film (Sheena Lambert) and Original Music (Eimear Noone and Craig Stuart Garfinkle), winning the award for Original Music.

The newly launched trailer offers audiences a first look at the film’s tense atmosphere, striking west of Ireland landscape and central mystery — as a body discovered in the receding waters of a man-made lake begins to unsettle a Gaeltacht community built on long-held secrets.

Set in September 1975, BÁITE (“The Drowned”) follows 23-year-old Peggy Casey, who runs her family’s pub in the west of Ireland. When the lake reveals what has been hidden beneath its surface, a murder investigation exposes buried truths that threaten family loyalties, identity and an entire community’s sense of belonging.

Directed by Ruán Magan, written by Sheena Lambert (adapted from her acclaimed novel The Lake), and produced by Siobhán Ní Ghadhra and John Brady for Galway-based Danú Media, the film blends suspense, identity and intergenerational memory within an authentically Irish-language setting.

The ensemble cast is led by Eleanor O’Brien (The Wonder, Disenchanted) as Peggy Casey, with Moe Dunford (Vikings, Rosie) as Detective Sergeant Frank Ryan. Supporting performances include Juliette Crosbie (Harry Wild), Pádraig Ó Loingsigh, and Denis Conway (Alexander,Brooklyn) as Father Mahon, with Mark Mac Gearailt, Gearóid Kavanagh and Fionnuala Gygax portraying Peggy’s siblings.

The production was supported by Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland, TG4 and Coimisiún na Meán under the Cine4 scheme, which champions bold and culturally rich Irish-language cinema.

“Massive congratulations to Eimear Noone and Craig Stuart Garfinkle on their IFTA win for Original Music for BÁITE last Friday and to the entire BÁITE team on an exceptional and truly well-deserved achievement. BÁITE is a confident and atmospheric Irish language film that reflects the ambition and creative strength of the Cine4 scheme. Deeply rooted in place and character, it brings a compelling story to the big screen and highlights the richness of Irish language storytelling. TG4 is proud to support Danú Media and the creative team behind Báite as the film prepares to reach cinema audiences this March.”Máire Ní Chonláin, Commissioning Editor, TG4 (Cine4)

Releasing during Seachtain na Gaeilge (https://snag.ie) places BÁITE at the heart of a national moment celebrating the Irish language, offering audiences the opportunity to experience a contemporary Irish-language story on the big screen.
