TG4 Marks Five Consecutive Years of Audience Growth in 2025
21.01.26

TG4 has recorded five consecutive years of audience share growth, marking its strongest sustained performance in 16 years, driven by live sport, music and factual programming.
According to figures from TAM Ireland, TG4 achieved an average audience share of 2.3% in 2025, reaching 77.2% of the Irish TV population, over the course of 2025.
“Five years of consecutive growth is a success story for TG4, reflecting our impact and unique remit as an Irish language media provider. These results reflect the strength of our content, continued popularity of live sport and live events and our growing connection with audiences across platforms as we broaden our platform neutral approach for content distribution to reflect how our audiences now consume content.” – Deirdre Ní Choistín, Ard-Stiúrthóir TG4

Live sport remained at the core of TG4’s successful performance. The Allianz League Football Final between Kerry and Mayo (30th of March 2025) was the channel’s most-watched programme of last year, attracting an average audience of 221,900 viewers.
Sport dominated TG4’s top 10 linear programmes, with the Allianz Leagues, Club Championship, Rugbaí Beo (URC) and Peil na mBan all delivering strong audiences throughout 2025.
A large audience tuned in to the latest chapter of the Munster rivalry in Round 2 of the Allianz Hurling League from SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh. TG4 set a new platform record as the Cork v Limerick clash on 1 February 2025 became the most-streamed live programme ever on the TG4 Player, attracting 172,000 streams.
TG4’s commitment to platform neutral sports programming was highlighted by Super Sunday on 23 March 2025, when every Division 1 and 2 Allianz League game was broadcast on TG4 or streamed on YouTube/TG4 Player. On that day alone 9 matches were shown (2 on linear, 6 on YouTube and 1 on the TG4 Player.) The Spórt TG4 YouTube channel recorded 320,000 views on that day across the 6 matches. In 2025 almost half of viewers on the Spórt TG4 YouTube channel were under the age of 35 highlighting TG4’s commitment to innovate and serve young audiences where they are.
Entertainment and Irish Language Programming

Beyond sport, TG4 continued to perform strongly across entertainment and factual programming. Fleadh 25 recorded its most successful night to date of Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann coverage (Friday the 8th of August 2025), while new series of programmes such as Hector OZ/NZ, Opry le Daniel, Laochra Gael and Glór Tíre remained among the channel’s most-watched titles. New programming, including Ó Mhuir go Tír, Scoil Cheoil an Earraigh and Beo ón Electric Picnic also performed well.

Strong Growth Across Digital Platforms

TG4’s digital platforms saw significant growth in 2025. TG4 Player (Seinnteoir TG4) streams increased by 28%.
Live sport was a key driver of TG4 Player growth while Ros na Rún topped Video On Demand content (VOD) along with Laochra Gael and CRÁ. Series two of CRÁ will begin filming very shortly in Co. Donegal.
International viewing along with Cúla4 Player streams rose by 22% in 2025. Super Simple Amhráin topped viewing on the Cúla4 Player, with children’s news service Nuacht Cúla4 ranking second.
Nollaí was the most-watched original Irish-language film for young audiences on TG4 and Cúla4 during the Christmas season. The project marks a significant milestone for Irish-language animation, co-commissioned by TG4, BBC Northern Ireland and S4C. It was produced through a dynamic tri-nation partnership supported by Northern Ireland Screen’s Irish Language Broadcast Fund (ILBF), Screen Fund and Coimisiún na Meán.
