TG4 will be centre stage at this year’s Oireachtas na Samhna with an extensive live broadcast schedule from the annual festival which takes place in Killarney from the 1st-5th of November.

A new live programme Lár Stáitse presented by Máire Treasa Ní Dhubhghaill will feature the traditional oral arts as Gaeilge, spotlighting the agallamh beirte (dialogue in verse) from the oral tradition.  The Agallamh Beirte final in the 12-15 competition age-group will be broadcast live and the programme will also include winning performances from other junior competitions (storytelling, recitations & lúibíní (traditional rhyming dialogue).

Other live broadcasts by TG4 from the festival include Nuacht TG4  on three consecutive evenings  (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday) and  Steip Beo,  the sean-nós dancing finals,  on the Saturday. Events to be live-streamed by TG4 include the Official Opening of the festival (Wednesday); the Oireachtas Media Awards Gala Evening (Wednesday) and a number of the adult sean-nós, performing and arts competitions (Thursday, Friday & Saturday).

The social media team will have exclusive footage from various competitions and events for the entire five days including greenroom access and interviews with participants of Steip & Lár Stáitse. This live coverage will bringing all the entertainment, action and craic from the festival through TG4’s Facebook, twitter, snapchat and Instagram accounts.

Wednesday 1st November

Other events taking place include:

Launching of the book Donal Dána in conjunction with Cló Iar-Chonnacht at 4pm on Thursday.
Premier of Murdair Mhám Trasna at 9.30pm. A ground breaking feature length docu-drama recounting the brutal slaying in 1882 of a family in Mám Trasna, a remote townland set in the mountains of Galway-Mayo border.
TG4’s younger viewers will have a chance to meet some of the Cúla4 stars, Mailí deCléir, Máirín de Buitléir and Caitríona Nic Cormaic at a special Cúla4 party at 11am.
