TG4’s Christmas schedule has plenty of festive treats to entertain the entire family. This season’s brand new documentaries include Rocky Ros Muc a multi award-winning feature-length film that tells the story of Connemara-born boxer, Seán Mannion, whose life and boxing career also serve as a window on the Irish emigrant experience in Boston in the grim 1980s. In a nostalgic documentary Puncaí features four punks from Cork who reflect on their experience of early punk in Ireland in the late 1970s.

Anseo i Lár an Ghleanna chronicles a year in the life of a small Connemara community as it strives to protect and preserve its past, realising that while it may not be able to save the village, perhaps it can save its heritage. An animated adaptation of Flann O’Brien’s acclaimed 1941 novel in Irish is the award winning An Béal Bocht. It is regarded as one of the greatest Irish-language novels of the 20th century.

For the music lovers we have a Christmas Day treat in Sé Mo Laoch Speisialta- Matt Molloy where the ‘Chieftain’ Matt Molloy meets ‘The Lord of the Dance’ Michael Flatley and ‘The King of the Concert Flute’ Séamus Tansey. Brian Kennedy Live at Vicar Street features Brian performing the entire ‘A Better Man’ album Live at Vicar Street twenty one years after the album was released. Frank Sinatra a timeless legend documents Sinatra’s career which spanned more than five decades.

Will it be a scrooge dark and dismal Christmas in Tigh Thaidhg or full of mistletoe and wine in TG4’s soap Ros na Rún?

Fáilte 2018 rings in the New Year live from Páidí Ó Sé’s pub in Ventry. Presenters Caitlín Nic Aoidh and Pádraig Ó Sé are joined by a host of guests to bid adieu to 2017 and welcome 2018- Bliain na Gaeilge.

As sporting events have kept us engrossed throughout the year TG4 gives you another chance to see this year’s All-Ireland hurling & football senior and minor finals as well as featuring all the best GAA goals of the year. Laochra Gael episode recorded with Tony Keady is shown as a tribute to the late legend. We also have live rugby action in Rugbaí Beo from the 11th & 12th rounds of PRO14 on 23rd December –Connacht v Ulster, St. Stephen’s Day –Munster v Leinster, and Leinster v Connacht on New Year’s Day.

Movies for all the family include a range of classics, westerns, cinema releases such as Elizabethtown, Nacho Libre, My Favourite Spy, Bee Movie, Little Boy Lost, Rango, Shane, Scared Stiff, Appointment with Death, The Molly Maguires, The Terminal, The Big Country and Irish language versions of animations SpongeBob Squarepants and Garfield –  Rodent Rebellion for our younger viewers.
