TG4 will take centre stage once again this week at the country’s largest Irish language cultural and arts festival, Oireachtas na Samhna in Killarney, as we broadcast live, launch programmes and our new social media app ‘Molscéal’, compete for Irish language ‘Oscars’ and showcase our extensive archive resources to thousands of Irish speakers.

TG4 Takes Centre Stage at Oireachtas na Samhna

MOLSCÉAL is the first ever app that provides short form video content for the Irish language speaking community all in one place. They are community based, visual stories, created by a panel of visual storytellers. You can find entertainment, news, archive and sports content on MOLSCÉAL. Well known academic and broadcaster Aodh Ó Coileáin will officially launch MOLSCÉAL at 5.30pm on Thursday.

TG4 will broadcast a wide range of programming from this years Oireachtas na Samhna as well. Nuacht TG4 comes live from Killarney at 7pm on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evening. ‘Lár Stáitse’ live at 8pm on Friday will give a tatse of the best of the entertainment on offer and we will also broadcast the hugely popular sean nós dancing competition, ‘Steip’, live on Saturday from 1.30pm.

We will be providing a huge amount of extra content on TG4’s online platforms as well throughout the festival. On Wednesday you can watch the Irish language ‘Oscars’ – Gradam Chumarsáide – live. You can also view the sean nós singing competitions for men, women and the ‘All-Ireland’ for singers, Corn Ui Riada, live on the player. We have the young peoples song writing competition, ‘Beo’, on Thursday night, as well as the competitions for adults in the verbal dramatic arts of poetry, parody and sketches on Thursday & Friday.

This year we also honour renowned sean nós singer Sarah Ghríallais with the premiere of a new programme chrinicling her life and work in ‘Sé mo Laoch – Sarah Ghríallais’, produced by Aniar TV which will be screened at a special event on Friday at 5pm.

We will also be launching a brand new, 52 part, young peoples art and stortytelling series ‘Ár Scéal’, produce by Meangadh Fíbín, as part of our Cúla4 young peoples party on Saturday morning.

TG4 is also proud to see the work of our former Deputy Director General, Pádhraic Ó Ciardha, honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the Irish language media awards and we also have a host of programmes, films, presenters, journalists and digital content competing for the prestigious ‘Oscars’ as well.

The breadth and richness of TG4’s online archive and educational content will be showcased in a special presentation at the Oireachtas ‘Market’ and people will be guided through the resources, including programmes, music, songs and educational content which is all available through our TG4 website.
