The hugely successful Fleadh TV returns to our screens this weekend with the first ever live programme from a provincial Fleadh being broadcast on TG4, at 8pm this Sunday, followed by the other three provinces in the coming weeks culminating in a jam packed four day Fleadh bonanza from Drogheda in August.

The Fleadh journey begins this weekend on TG4

06.07.18

Every journey has to start somewhere, in the case of FleadhTV it first appeared on TV screens in 2013 with Fleadh Cheoil taking place, for the first time, in Derry (then titled Fleadh Live).  A programme coming from the monster of an event that is Fleadh Cheoil has now become one of TG4’s flagship programmes of the year.

Now for the  first time, the fleadh team will broadcast LIVE from the Provincial Fleadhs.  The four provinces are covered – Connacht in Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim on July 8th, Leinster in Bagnelstown on July 15th then it’s a trip to Ennis, Co. Clare for the Munster Fleadh on Sunday 22nd July and heading to Castlewellan, Co. Down for the Ulster Fleadh on July 29th for the final provincial FleadhEach show airs from 8pm to 9.30pm. The provincial Fleadhs are where the competitions are intense, getting a place at the All-Ireland’s is huge, expect incredible music from new and well-known talent!

The FleadhTV shows in August are the main stay of the series. They will be broadcast live on TG4 from Thursday 16th August to Sunday 19th August from 8.30pm to 11.30pm each night.  Fleadh Cheoil 2018 will be taking place in Drogheda and excitement is already building for what looks likely to be the summer day trip event to go to.

All journeys need inspiring leaders and FleadhTV has this in buckets with Hector Ó hEochagáin returning this year to bring viewers the best of ‘ceol agus craic’ from the streets of Drogheda!  Joining him in her debut on FleadhTV is renowned musician and Gaeilgeoir Doireann Ni Ghlacáin.  New to the presenting team also is well known RTÉ Radio 1 presenter and lead vocalist from The Evertides Ruth Smith. For the Provincial Fleadh’s Doireann will take the helm in presenting the shows ably assisted by another newcomer to the team, Aindrias de Staic.

The FLEADH coverage will be available to watch worldwide at www.tg4.ie

In 2017 the series was watched by over 700,000 over the weekend of live shows.  FleadhTV is one of the leading lights of multiscreen viewing with its social channels overflowing with tantalising content.  On Fleadh week in 2017, 1 million video views were logged on FleadhTV’s own social networks.  This is the very social Fleadh!

Produced by the IFTA Award winning team at Gifted Empire Productions.
