TG4 today announced the appointment of Trevor Ó Clochartaigh as Communications Manager, following a publicly-advertised recruitment competition.  He will commence in post with TG4 at the beginning of March 2018.

A native speaker of Irish from the Galway Gaeltacht, he brings to the role long and multi-faceted professional experience in the TV, media, arts and community development sectors, at both regional and national level.

Born in Huddersfield, England of  Connemara parents, he received his education in Ireland, culminating in a degree in Commerce from NUIG in Galway. In his subsequent career path, he worked as a Project Manager with Gaelscéal, as Series Producer on the TV drama series Ros na Rún, as Artistic Director with the Irish language theatre Taibhdhearc na Gaillimhe and with the theatre company Na Fánaithe. He and his young family have lived in An Cheathrú Rua in the heart of the Galway Gaeltacht for many years where he also gained experience as a manager with various community/development Gaeltacht-based organisations including Cumas/MFG and Comhairle Ceantar na nOileán.

He has been a member of Seanad Éireann since 2011 and in that role has gained wide media experience from another perspective, handling media of all kinds; regional, national and social in both Irish and English.

TG4 Director General Alan Esslemont welcomed Trevor Ó Clochartaigh to the TG4 team. “This is our first appointment to this newly-created post at  TG4,” he said “and we were heartened by the quality of applicants for the position.  We are delighted to be appointing someone with such wide experience and expertise in the arts and community development in addition to the media, TV and public affairs   with total fluency in both languages. It is indeed timely that he joins us as we begin to implement our newly drafted comprehensive Strategy Plan 2018 – 2022 recently submitted to the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland. Trevor will have a key role with us, working closely with with independent producers who supply TG4’s content, in ensuring that our output receives lots of media coverage and has a high profile with the viewing public.”

Trevor Ó Clochartaigh says he is looking forward greatly to his new challenge:“TG4 delivers a comprehensive daily Irish language service across multiple platforms worldwide. As the competition increases, the quality of our output and the public regard and affection in which the service is held, means we face forward with confidence ,” he said.
