In this series, award winning Kerry journalist,  Seán Mac an tSíthigh, travels from Glasgow to London to meet with the many generations of Irish immigrants who now call the UK their home..

Separated by 60 miles of water and sharing a complicated history, the Irish are the single largest immigrant community in the United Kingdom. Seán meets with the many generations of Irish in Britain, a country where the immigrant community have assimilated into every aspect of life, while still preserving their own very distinctive Irish identity.

‘Gaeil UK’ is produced by Aniar TV for TG4. It will be broadcast on the national Irish language station from the 15/11/18 at 8pm. It will also be available on the player worldwide at www.tg4.ie/player.

The first episode, which will be screened at the launch on Saturday 27th October at 12.30pm in the Museum of Liverpool,  focuses on Irish people who settled in Liverpool, Leeds and Huddersfield. The programmes will also be preceeded by a screening of another TG4 music documentary, ‘Lomax in Éirinn/Lomax in Ireland’ which tells the story of the making of the first ever LP of Irish music.

This launch signals a new collaboration between TG4 and the Liverpool Irish Festival.

TG4 Communications Manager, Trevor Ó Clochartaigh says, “We are delighted to be working with the Liverpool Irish Festival. This initiative is part of our five year strategy which sees us collaborating with other organisations to promote the broad selection of programming from TG4 to audiences at home and abroad. We feel that the Liverpool Irish Festival, with it’s varied, eclectic and contemporary mix of events, is the perfect match for our ‘Súil Eile’, or alternative approach, to content creation”.
