After three successful series for TG4 and Cúla4, the beloved children’s programme Mo Shaol Do Shaol returns with an exciting new direction that promises to educate, entertain and inspire young audiences across Ireland.

The Mo Shaol Do Shaol series will air (starting May 6th) on Wednesdays & Fridays @ 18:30 on Cúla4 and cula4.com. ISL Versions will also be available on those same days but at the earlier time of 13:45.

This time, the series goes beyond swapping hobbies and lifestyles to explore something even more exciting: the diverse cultures and communities that make up modern Ireland. In this innovative fourth series, children with Gaeilge from completely different cultural backgrounds swap lives, offering viewers a unique window into each other’s worlds.

The series is beloved among children with and without Irish alike and is often shown in schools for fun and educational purposes. Through curiosity, laughter and plenty of humour, these young participants embark on an eye-opening journey that reveals what it truly means to walk in someone else’s shoes.

Each episode introduces two children who know nothing about each other’s background. This series features 27 different children acting as representatives for their nationalities and showing off the things they love most about their culture, all as Gaeilge! As they take turns immersing themselves in each other’s daily lives, our young audience discovers the vibrant tapestry of multicultural communities, including Puerto Rico, France, Nigeria, China, Poland, Australia, and many more. From traditional festivals and colourful celebrations to distinctive clothing, delicious cuisine and unique customs, the series answers questions that matter to children: Who are our neighbours? Where do they come from? What games do they play? What interesting traditions do they cherish?

The result is a colourful and adventurous exploration that’s both challenging and rewarding for the participants, filled with the joy, curiosity and fun that has made Mo Shaol Do Shaol a favourite among Irish families. This groundbreaking format is new territory for both Macalla and Cúla4 alike. It celebrates Ireland’s cultural diversity while promoting understanding, empathy and friendship among the next generation.

The commitment to representation goes beyond our cast. The Mo Shaol Do Shaol production crew itself reflects Ireland’s diversity with team members from a range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. With incredibly talented individuals like Dolapo Agunbiade, assistant producer of the series with a Nigerian-Irish background and Raja Nundall, the director of photography that has a Mauritius background. This production team created a welcoming community on and off screen that can be felt throughout the show. This is a series fuelled by warmth, passion, and authenticity.

Siobhán Ní Bhrádaigh, Commissioning Editor for Children’s Content, TG4: said: “This format has gone from strength to strength in Series 4. It is an engaging and entertaining series. There is scope for future series focusing on young people from diverse cultural backgrounds.”

Mo Shaol Do Shaol Series 4 offers something truly special: an authentic, child-led discovery of the rich cultural landscape that defines Ireland today.
