TG4 was honoured to welcome the President of Ireland, Catherine Connolly to its headquarters today, 17 April, to mark an important milestone in the broadcaster’s history.
During her visit, the President unveiled a commemorative plaque in recognition of the fact that, in October this year, TG4 will celebrate 30 years on air. The occasion marks three decades of TG4’s unique contribution to broadcasting, Irish culture, and Irish-language public service media.

As part of the visit, the President met with Director General Deirdre Ní Choistín, Chairperson Anna Ní Ghallchóir, and members of TG4 staff. The visit provided an opportunity to reflect on TG4’s achievements over the past 30 years and to acknowledge the dedication and creativity of the people who have helped shape the channel since its launch.

“I am delighted to visit TG4, here in the heartland of the Connemara Gaeltacht, and to meet with their fantastic team. The wide range and quality of programming that has emerged from TG4 over the past 30 years has rightfully received praise not only from the Irish language community and the broader population of Ireland, but has also been recognised internationally. May I offer my very best wishes to all involved in the station as your creativity and work continues to grow over the years ahead.”Uachtarán na hÉireann – Catherine Connolly

Speaking on the occasion, Deirdre Ní Choistín, Director General, TG4, said:
“It was a great honour for TG4 to welcome the President of Ireland, Catherine Connolly to our headquarters in Connemara on this special occasion. As we look ahead to celebrating 30 years on air this October, today was an opportunity to reflect on the extraordinary journey of TG4 and on its impact on the Irish language, Gaeltacht communities and the creative economy. I would like to give recognition and thanks to everyone involved in TnaG and TG4 who have shaped the channel over the past three decades. We are very proud of the role TG4 continues to play in Irish life, in public service media, and in supporting and promoting the Irish language every day.”

Since first going on air in October 1996, TG4 has played a central role in Irish cultural life, providing distinctive Irish-language programming in documentaries, sport, drama, music and children’s content.

The unveiling of the plaque stands as a special moment in TG4’s anniversary year and a tribute to the channel’s enduring commitment to the Irish language, Irish creativity and public service media.
